Ara Lumiere debuts with wounds of gold Fall Winter ’26/27 Collection

For the Fall Winter 2026–27 collection, Ara Lumiere – the sustainable fashion brand founded by Kulsum Shadab Wahab – unveils Wounds of Gold, a collection that explores transformation through fashion, where vulnerability becomes strength and the body is reclaimed as a site of beauty, memory and resistance.

Kulsum Shadab Wahab, an Indian philanthropist and Executive Director of the Hothur Foundation, has long supported women who have survived gender-based violence. As the founder of the brand Ara Lumiere, she works to ensure freedom, dignity, and equal rights for survivors of acid attacks, and last November she was named Women Empowerment Ambassador by the Italian National Fashion Chamber.

At the heart of the Ara Lumiere project is a clear and intentional production model: the atelier exclusively employs women who have survived acid attacks, involving them in every step of the creative process. This is not a symbolic gesture, but a fundamental commitment that combines skilled craftsmanship, professional training, and economic empowerment. The collection is born from this lived experience, transforming personal memory into a visual language. Scars are neither hidden nor softened; they become integral to the garment’s structure, surface, and architectural form. Irregular lines, material disruptions, and tactile contrasts give physical expression to resilience.

The collection draws from the expressive power of Indian textiles, seen as living materials shaped by time, intervention and repair. Woven traditions are reinterpreted through contemporary tailoring, echoing a journey that is both deeply rooted and forward-looking. Zari embroidery and brocade fabrics are treated and manipulated to evoke abrasion, fractures and metallic wear, creating surfaces that feel marked yet resolute.

The color palette is bold and intense: gold emerges as a central narrative element — not as ornament, but as meaning. It references visibility, restoration and value reclaimed, while silver introduces tension and contrast.

Ivory suggests renewal and continuity, and black anchors the collection, acknowledging trauma without allowing it to define the story. Together, the colors trace a journey from darkness toward light, from rupture to regeneration.

Silhouettes are precise and architectural yet softened by a sense of intimacy. Tailored jackets and blazers act as protective structures, balancing authority and delicacy. Lines are intentionally irregular, proportions subtly altered, and textures layered, reflecting bodies shaped by experience rather than idealised perfection.

Silvia Negri and the team at Negri Firman PR & Communications, long guided by a vision rooted in social justice and responsible communication, proudly support Ara Lumiere, sharing its values and mission.

The agency provides daily support to the brand and its founder, Kulsum Shadab Wahab, managing communication and talent activities with a strategic, values-driven approach.

This partnership stems from an authentic alignment of purpose: to showcase a project that merges ethical fashion and sustainability, transforming clothing into a tool for advocacy, dignity, and social change, offering women a tangible opportunity to reclaim their identity and voice.

As the agency, we also developed the concept for the brand’s dedicated event, defining its creative and narrative positioning, overseeing the art direction, and managing the entire production. This integrated work translated Ara Lumiere’s values into a coherent, immersive, and high-impact experience, further strengthening the project’s message and vision.

The presentation took place at DOTS., located at Via Salaino 12, one of the brand’s three Milanese venues: versatile design spaces conceived to host a variety of exclusive events.

Guests were able to receive a real-time portrait created by Lucio Gelsi through his photographic project Volti D’Autore.

The garments on display were further enhanced by Bonaveri’s high-end mannequins, internationally renowned for their premium exhibition figures, which interpreted the collection’s silhouettes with precision and elegance.

Dammann Frères, the historic French tea house, accompanied the presentation with a refined selection of Indian teas.

For the occasion, Archiproducts provided the furnishings. Special thanks to Brothering Milano for supplying materials, and to Claudia Borri for the performance From Wound to Light , inspired by the Ara Lumiere project: an emotional journey of the Ara Lumiere woman, from vulnerability to transformation, from isolation to collective strength.

Wounds of Gold stands as both a fashion statement and a cultural position. Ara Lumiere places survivors at the centre of creation, affirming fashion as a vehicle for autonomy, expression and long-term empowerment. Each garment carries the trace of human hands and lived stories, existing not only as an object of design but as a declaration of presence.

With this collection, Ara Lumiere invites the fashion community to reconsider notions of beauty, strength and luxury, revealing how what has been fractured can return transformed, radiant and unapologetically visible.
