Her Threads: HUI Weaves Memory into a Global Language

For Milan Fashion Week, HUI Milano presents Her Threads, an FW26-27 collection rooted in the ancient tradition of Nü Gong (女红). This feminine art of embroidery is reinterpreted as a modern language of identity, memory, and resilience.

More than a mere craft, Nü Gong represents a silent heritage passed down through generations—a form of domestic wisdom through which women have stitched emotions, hopes, and personal stories into the very fabric of their lives. With Her Threads, HUI Milano elevates this intimate practice into a powerful visual narrative for the international stage.

The FW26-27 show is conceived as an immersive journey through suspended threads, a symbolic landscape that follows the models through the various seasons of a woman’s life. From innocence to self-awareness, from invisibility to full empowerment, the set design reflects the emotional and social layers that transcend time. In this collection, embroidery is not decoration, but storytelling.

Stitches are tucked away inside garments, hidden along seams, cuffs, and backs: traces of a labor that is often invisible, a legacy of memory and inner strength. The threads evolve from delicate fibers into bold structures—a metaphor for the transformation of the female role from a silent presence to a conscious protagonist.

The color palette follows this narrative arc: beginning with pale, ethereal tones, moving into deep and introspective shades, and culminating in luminous whites that evoke self-determination and freedom.

As the show progresses, the space opens up to the light, reinforcing the central message: women are not bound by the systems they inherit; they are the ones who weave the world.

With Her Threads, HUI Milano builds a bridge between Chinese cultural heritage and a contemporary global language, offering a reflection on healing, continuity, and the generative power of womanhood.

This project is a testament to the vision of founder and creative director Huizhou Zhao, a recognized ambassador of Chinese style in Italy, who has long been dedicated to bridging the gap between Eastern craftsmanship and the Western fashion system.

Because history is not only written. Sometimes, it is embroidered.
